Ch 47

Designer: Hans Wegner

Hans J. Wegner’s CH47 chair has a classic and elegant appearance which appears to be inspired by Southern Europe and the American Shaker pure forms. In his classic CH47 chair from 1966, Hans J. Wegner has used the same design idea as his CH46 armchair from the same year and the CH44 lounge chair from the previous year. The CH47 design is simple and stylish with its woven seat and a solid wooden frame with rounded profiles. An important element is the curved hind legs which give CH47 a laid-back look. But more important, the curved legs are chosen to give the backrest the correct angle but also to ensure that the chair cannot fall backwards. In Wegner’s design of CH47, you can see how he has used his expert carpentry knowledge to create a sturdy chair. He has strengthened all the joints by displacing the rails and stretchers, ensuring that the dowels can be used at full height and maximum depth when inserted into the chair legs. The CH47 chair’s well thought out design and warm natural materials make it suitable for many types of rooms and functions - from dining rooms to waiting rooms and meeting rooms. The chair is also available as an armchair in model CH46. In spite of the armrests, it has the same seat width as CH47. Chair 47.
